Safety and Security of Van users


SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE

Meeting with parent representatives of Van users

On 20th July, 2019, a meeting with parents of van users was organized in the school premises.
The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the safety and security of the students travelling by van and to share our concerns with all van users.  The meeting began at 8.30 am.

As an icebreaker, A.H.M Ms. Sunita Rajiv asked the parents about the names of van drivers and car no.s from the present parents. Most of them did not know the car no. and the proper name of the van driver. In the same vein, she highlighted the complacency on the part of the parents regarding the safety of their child. She alarmed parents of the all the risk factors that were prevailing because of the negligence of drivers and the parents themselves. A document listing all the concerns of the school for the safety of van users had already been sent to the parents. All the points were read out one by one and discussed.

Parents were advised to ensure of the following: police verification and complete details of the drivers, making sure that the drivers are not in habit of smoking or chewing tobacco in presence of children and do not use abusive language in front of children. Also to ensure that the drivers avoid over speeding and violation of traffic rules especially when carrying children with them.
AHM insisted on developing a network of Van user parents and taking turns to follow/supervise the road behaviour of van drivers.

The headmistress, Ms. Anju Gupta also took a stock of the proceedings and suggested parents to insist the van drivers to install GPS system in their vehicles and also share their live locations while carrying the children.Initiating WhatsApp group of parents availing same route was also suggested.

Overall the meeting was beneficial in highlighting certain important issues that raise an alarm. And the successful implementation of a system that ensures complete safety and security of children which cannot be achieved without the support and cooperation of parents.

In a constantly changing environment, having life skills is an essential part of being able to meet the challenges of everyday life and to cope with the change of modern life.
In a special assembly on 10th July, 2019 the Prep teachers welcomed the students with full zeal and enthusiasm. The teachers presented a skit on day to day life situations to equip our students to handle and face any situation confidently and with positive attitude without any stress. Children were happy and excited to see their teachers performing for them. They coul also answer critical questions based on the skit. They learnt how to fold their clothes and help their mother in daily household chores to become self independent.

Workshop on Early Childhood Education

On 11 th May, Saturday, the Pre-Primary department of Ahlcon International School and Ahlcon Public School had a wonderful experience of learning the ‘Theory of Multiple Intelligences’ advocated by specialist, Howard Gardner through an interactive workshop in the conference hall of the school. The resource person,
Ms. Monica Dhir, conducted a beautiful session for the teachers by explaining the eight intelligences and how the educators can use these multiple intelligence strategies in their classrooms to address the dominant intelligences of their learners. Various techniques were discussed in the workshop using which a teacher can achieve interest of each and every student of the class.
The eight major areas of Multiple Intelligence namely: Linguistic, Logical- mathematical, Visual-Spatial, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Musical, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal and Naturalist intelligence were discussed by giving appropriate examples.

The resource person, Ms. Monica, enlightened that how the theory of multiple intelligences proposes a major transformation in the education system and also suggested that how teachers can plan their lessons in a wide variety of ways using music, cooperative learning, digital learning, art activities, role play, field trips,
and much more. Overall it was a brilliant session where teachers freely discussed their questions and how beautifully these queries were handled and responded by Ms. Monica Dhir herself.

Session on - Art of Parenting

Ahlcon International firmly believes in taking all stake holders on board and highly values the participation of parents in teaching learning process. An enlightening session was conducted for the parents of Ahlcon International School, Mayur Vihar in the school auditorium on Monday, 13 th May 2019 by the renowned parenting expert, Ms. Sunita Jain and special educator Mr. Dheeraj Bhasin.
The resource person, Ms. Sunita Jain sensitised the parents about the excessive usage of mobile phones and its adverse effects on children. She explained the importance of 3C’s i.e. Connect, Compliment and Communicate in developing a healthy bond with the child in the current era. She also enlightened the parents about the negative effects of comparison that it has on children especially among siblings and how criticism can leave a devastating effect on young minds.
The session also covered the areas that helped parents identify the red flags and the early intervention they can seek for the improved progress of their child. Mr. Dheeraj Bhasin, the eminent special educator addressed the parents on certain terminologies and concepts like mainstreaming, Integration and Inclusion.

Ms. Sunita Rajiv, A.H.M Pre-Primary, concluded the session by briefing the parents about 7 essential things they can do to make a happy parent. She also explained ‘The Magic 5:1 Ratio’ technique in order to connect well with the child. She gave a beautiful example of a child to that of a plant and addressed upon three major areas; supporting the roots, strengthening the stem and saving the child from the scorching heat of the sun. Where the family background for any child acts like his roots while the education being the scorching heat of the sun and the world around him is an environment for his success and growth.

The session left a deep impact on the minds of young parents and acted as an eye-opener on the problems that are often ignored by them.
