ELIMINATING CORPORAL PUNISHMENT

Having received a very relevant and highly enriched training from the SCERT , Ms. Sunita Rajiv conducted a workshop on Eliminating Corporal Punishment for 50 teachers of the Primary Section on 1-12-2018 and for 24 teachers of Preprimary Section on 15-12-2018.

This training aimed at:

  • establishing the need to eliminate corporal punishment.
  • giving an opportunity to teachers to identify their trigger points of anger and using corporal punishment as a result


  • giving an opportunity to teachers to reflect upon the above-stated points in order to find constructive and engaging alternatives for the same


  • helping the teachers understand broad context/perspective of Corporal Punishment i.e. physical punishment, mental harassment, discrimination, negative approach of disciplining, ignorance, sexual harassment, stigmatisation, name calling etc. in a negative way to give an opportunity to the teachers to discuss the rationale behind the elimination of Corporal Punishment.


  • motivating the teachers to identify the strategies to create a fearless and joyful environment in the school system


  • sensitizing and empowering teachers on constitutional and legal provisions for eliminating Corporal Punishment as per RTE Act 2009, POCSO Act 2012, JJ Act 2015, NCPCR and  DCPCR guidelines etc.


The training evoked some very relevant debates and discussions.The teachers participated very
enthusiastically .The Headmistress, Ms. Anju Gupta gave her inputs and reiterated the message of
treating children with empathy and love.
Feedback was taken from the teachers.
