ART OF PARENTING : SESSION - 1
The first Parenting session for the term 2018-19 for the parents of students studying in the Nursery and Prep classes, organized by the Preprimary department of Ahlcon International school was held on Saturday, 7th July 2018 in the school auditorium.
The session was graced by the Principal, Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey, the school Counsellor, Ms. Chetna Sabharwal, the teachers of the pre-primary department of the school & the parents whose children are in the Preprimary classes.
The Principal, Mr. Ashok Kumar Pandey delivered the keynote address. He reinstated the fact that it takes a village to raise a child. Parents and teachers are partners in the learning journey of a child. He voiced the importance of giving emotional support to children and keeping their values and morals intact. The next speaker was the school counsellor Ms. Chetna Sabharwal who enlightened the audience on ‘What to Watch and When to Worry’. She shared some pointers about how to identify learning difficulties among children and talked about giving the children some freedom and to make sure of the fine lines of being over possessive, the significance of observing your child the right way and seeking help without hesitation when needed and not delaying in reaching out for help. She also stated that school as a facilitator has been doing its best to give the students the best environment possible and emphasized on inclusion of children with Special needs.
The final speaker for the day was the AHM of the Preprimary department, Ms. Sunita Rajiv who interacted with the parents on the topic ‘Parenting 21 st Century Children’. It was a lively and fun filled session where the parents could relate to a lot of content related to the behavioral aspects of their children and were given tips on how to gauge the reason of their child’s changed attitude or behavior, be it anger garnered due to some reason, negligence due to having siblings or peer influence and so on. She also shed light on the excessive use of gadgets by adults which influences the children.
