Ideas that can bring a change

What happens into the life of a child in preschool is very crucial for the rest of his/her life. What happens in the classroom will build a foundation for the rest the students’ academic career. A teacher’s role at this stage is very important. It is important that she uses different innovative strategies to teach different concepts. In today’s world of education, the classroom is no longer bound by four walls.

 Here at Ahlcon, we believe that we need to provide opportunities to students to connect with the content they are being taught with hands on/field experience and other active learning strategies. During the course of studies, the students were introduced to backward counting. Initially it was found that they had difficulty in remembering the numbers in backward sequence. So, the teacher took them out of the classroom. 

The school staircase which the students use everyday were used to give them an out of the box experience in learning backward counting. The staircase was numbered from 1 to 10 with one number written on each stair. The children climbed the steps reading numbers from 1 to 10 and came down the same steps reading numbers from 10 to 1 i.e backward counting. This continued for many days. Everytime they climbed up the stairs to go home and come down while entering the school, they did forward and backward counting. It was realized that students could learn backward counting by heart without making any effort.

What was supposed to be a learning lesson became a game for 

them filled with a lot of fun.
